BACKPACKER Rachel Kerr missed her favourite Indian restaurant so much she had a vegetable curry flown 11,000 miles around the world to Australia.
Rachel, 24, is spending a year hiking around the world with her pals but after six months abroad she craved a good curry.
At an Internet cafe in Sydney she placed an order with her favourite Indian, the Rupali in her home city of Newcastle.
The order was placed via the Madaboutcurry website and they organised transportation of the frozen dish.
First a motorcycle courier was sent to pick up the vegetable biriani, poppadums, peshwari naan bread, lime pickles, chutney and vegetable pilau rice.
He rode 45-miles from Newcastle to Teesside airport and placed it on a plane to Heathrow in a sub-zero container.
From there, the precious package was transferred to a flight to Sydney, where another courier picked it up.
The meal was then delivered to Rachel, who arranged to meet the courier on Sydney Harbour Bridge. She said: "My friend and I were laughing about how you can't get a proper curry in Sydney. It must be the longest takeaway order ever delivered and it tasted all the better for it."
Abdul Latif, owner of the Rupali said: "I like to think I have loyal customers but she has taken it to extremes. I'm glad she enjoyed it when it arrived."
