DOZENS of pancake lovers were flipping for charity at the Great Charity Pancake Race yesterday.
The participants braved the cold at St Peter's Riverside, next to the National Glass Centre, in Sunderland, to take part in the race.
Organisers hoped to raise more than £1,000 for the Children's Hope Foundation from the event.
Teams of three had to raise a minimum of £25 in sponsorship to run the relay race, coupled with the traditional throwing of pancakes.
At the end, the cold and tired participants received a plate of warm pancakes.
National Glass Centre events officer Alison Lumsdon said staff at the centre had decided to make the giant pancake race an annual event.
She said: "It is a huge amount of fun, and after we raised £1,100 for the Spinal Injury Association last year we thought it would be a good idea to do it again."
The event was supported by Cadbury's and Sun FM
