Darlington manager Gary Bennett has made an enquiry for his old Sunderland teammate Don Goodman, writes RAY SIMPSON.
Bennett and Goodman were colleagues at Roker Park for three years from December 1991, before the striker moved to Wolves for £1.1m in December 1994.
After leaving Molineux in May 1998, he had a brief spell in Japan before he moved to Motherwell two summers ago.
He has scored 8 goals in 38 games at Fir Park, and will be available on a free at the end of the season.
Bennett, however, played down the reports. "I know Don very well from our days at Sunderland, but he is one of several players who we have made enquiries about," he said.
Motherwell are understood to be willing to allow Goodman to leave for nothing before the end of his contract, but he has been suffering from injuries this season.
Meanwhile, Chris Waddle has ruled himself out of a playing return in the Football League with Quakers for the time being.
Waddle is chasing FA Trophy glory with Worksop from the UniBond League, and Bennett said: "Worksop want to hold on to him, because they play the next round of the Trophy in a couple of weeks. We will have to look at the situation."
Quakers are also chasing Waddle's teammate Kirk Jackson. But he is under contract with the Nottinghamshire club, who want a fee.
"We're hoping that something can be agreed," said Bennett. "The two chairmen will have to agree a fee."
Darlington chairman George Reynolds is due to return this morning after his appearance on the Oprah Winfrey chat show in Chicago, and Bennett will update him.
Frenchman Nicholas Forge won't be coming to Darlington. The left back impressed in reserve games but he has joined a club in France.
Adam Marsh yesterday netted the winner for Quakers' reserve side at Wigan. Carlisle keeper Peter Keen appeared for 90 minutes, along with midfielder Nicky Evans who was with assistant Mick Tait at both Hartlepool and Blyth Spartans
