A PUBGOER'S jaw was broken when a man attacked him, a court heard.
Kevin Marlborough required surgery after he was attacked by Morris Crowe during a row at Finnigans bar, in Market Street, Hetton-le-Hole, Wearside, on August 27.
Mr Crowe, 45, told Newcastle Crown Court yesterday how he punched Mr Marlborough because he feared he was going to be attacked first.
He said Mr Marlborough had acted inappropriately towards his wife and her friend during a game of pool.
Donald McFall, prosecuting, told the court that Mr Crowe lashed out because he was angry.
Mr McFall said: "You hit him, knocked him to the ground, then continued the assault and broke his jaw."
Mr Crowe, of Thomas Street, Hetton-le-Hole, denies causing grievous bodily harm.
The trial continues.
