Tonight's A international between England and Scotland has been switched from Newcastle to Leeds.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food have expressed concern over Newcastle staging fixtures.

The ground is close to a number of farms where there have been confirmed foot-and-mouth cases.

Falcons' Premiership home match against Harlequins next Tuesday night is also in doubt.

But the snow-covered pitch was unfit anyway, so Headingley will stage the match instead.

Falcons had sold around 5,000 tickets for the match, which features their cup final heroes Doddie Weir, Andrew Mayer, Dave Walder and Tom May.

Those who have bought tickets will be entitled to a full refund.

Tomorrow's England-Scotland Six Nations clash, plus representative under-21 and students fixtures will go ahead as planned.

l Darlington Mowden Park have decided not to re-sign centre Ross Jennings, who scored two tries in this season's Varsity Match.

Jennings played for Mowden while at Durham University and was set to return for the latter part of this season.

But Mowden discovered he would not be available for tomorrow's Durham Cup semi-final at Darlington, nor next week's match against Macclesfield.

As he was also likely to miss other games they decided it would be in everyone's best interests if he took up his other option, to sign for Henley.

Mowden could probably have made use of Jennings tomorrow as Tony Elwine is unavailable for two weeks and Matt Howland is out with an ankle injury.

With Kevin McCallum's shoulder not responding to treatment, and scrum half Phil Harvey out for several more weeks, Mowden's options are limited in the backs.

Several Darlington players from outlying areas were unable to get to Wednesday night's match against the Army, leaving them without replacements and forcing prop Phil Lancaster to play on the wing.

After conceding an early interception try, Darlington came back to lead 12-7 at half-time, but the visitors were strengthened by several replacements and won 26-12.

Darlington fly half Nick Gregory followed an excellent early break by setting up a try for prop John Coleby, then Lancaster scored after Joe Osleton and Chris Dickinson had driven to within a metre of the line.

The pitch had drained well, and frost is the only fear for tomorrow
