A PROPOSED estate on the edge of Leyburn would increase the town's housing provision by 12pc, placing stress on local services, a councillor has warned.
Coun Terry Jones, who represents the town on Richmondshire District Council, told the planning committee that schools, dentists and medical services might not be able to cope. There was already a nine-month waiting list for NHS dental work.
The committee was discussing proposals by Persimmon Homes for 124 houses and flats at Maythorne Farm, on the outskirts of the town.
Mr Brian Hodges, principal development control officer, told the meeting on Tuesday that more detail was needed before he could make a firm recommendation. The committee agreed to defer a decision for further talks and a report will go to the April meeting
