David Lumsdon, a Durham and Cleveland veteran for many years, took the men's over 50 title at the national championships in Manchester last week.
He defeated Lancashire's Maussa Helal 8-10, 9-2, 1-9, 9-3, 9-2 after earlier knocking out players from Norfolk, Ireland and Kent.
Neil Harrison from Nunthorpe was a quarter-finalist in the over 40 event, going down to eventual winner Mark Woodliffe of Gloucestershire.
Tom Elves made the last eight in the over 55 event, but David Hadern of Notts halted his progress. Peter Lonsdale of Guisborough and Yarm's Peter Smith were first round casualties in the over 60s and over 35s respectively.
Jacky Gardner from Redcar was runner-up in the ladies' over 40 event to Liz Brown of Staffordshire, while her Durham and Cleveland veteran colleague Faith Sinclair was second in the over 45 round robin
