A REBEL councillor, branded "sexist" after publishing comments on the physical attributes of female council workers in his own newsletter, faces the music next week.

Tony Pelton, who represents Catterick Village on the Richmondshire authority, has already been censured by the standards committee, which found him guilty of bringing the council into disrepute.

He was instructed to apologise to the three officers he offended, either personally or via The Clarion, which he distributes across his ward.

But Coun Pelton has always remained adamant he has done nothing wrong, refusing to comply and threatening to push for a judicial review if the council doesn't drop the issue.

The February issue of The Clarion included an article, criticising the individuals who brought Mr Pelton to book, as well as questioning their motives.

Another piece in the same column launched a stinging attack on senior executives.

However, a full meeting of the authority is scheduled for Tuesday when Coun Pelton's colleagues will be asked to decide the next step - which could range from a formal censure to a ban from committees.

However, yesterday, Coun Pelton remained confident of victory himself: "I have put in a claim for the legal expenses I have incurred in my defence and I expect them to be paid.

"There will be no debate as I have done nothing wrong," he said.
