Kay Stephenson and Pippa Baker from Hurworth Kyosho Karate Club, both collected gold at the Northern Cross Open Karate competition in Leeds.
The club's squad performed very well, and apart from the gold medal glory, they also won three silver and two bronze along with three silver medals in the team Kata.
Denis Slater, club secretary was delighted the pupils' achievement, saying: "As this was the first Open competition many of the students had entered, they did really well to win these trophies."

l The club train at Hurworth Comprehensive School gymnasium on Monday and Wednesday evenings 6.30-8.30pm.
