TEES Rowing Club crews enjoyed more success recently at the Tyne Head of the River Race, a three-mile time trial from Newburn to Scotswood.
The veteran E (over 55) four of Chris Kenyon, Alan Parsons, John Green, Philip Stephenson and cox Sarah Smith were runners-up in their class to national veteran champions Berwick/Cambois.
The ever-improving novice crew of Lars Johnsson, David Scarr, Dave Warburton, Jonothan Shirley and cox Angela Warburton put in a solid performance to finish as runners-up in their event to Ponteland High School.
Two Tees crews took a trip down the M1 to the Trent Head of the River at Nottingham, where fog delayed the start.
The veteran C (over 43) coxed four of Richard Harandon, Dick Wilkinson, Tor Taverner, Dilwyn Jones and cox Carole Jones covered the three-mile course in 19 minutes 21 seconds to win their category and beat opposition from Durham and Newark.
This crew then combined with other Tees members to race in the veteran D (over 50) eights event, where they finished third against strong opposition from Royal Chester, Bedford and Bradford.
This weekend, a large contingent from the Tees - Tees RC, University of Teesside RC, University of Durham Stockton Campus BC and Yarm School BC - will be racing at the Yorkshire Head of the River at York.
