Durham City Ladies
Durham City reached the semi-finals of the Northern League, Second Division Cup with a 9-5 aggregate win over NewtonAycliffe. Durham had a four-goal cushion going into the second leg which ended in a 3-3 draw, the match going ahead following a morning pitch inspection.
Durham raced into a 3-0 lead within the first 30 minutes, the first goal came after Gemma Charlton had been brought down in the box, Claire Turner converting the penalty. Amanda Smith made some great runs down the right and Helen Richardson converted one of Smith's crosses for a second. Richardson quickly got her second when she blasted home a cross from the left, this time from Magda Carr. Just before the break Durham's Julie Campbell conceded a penalty however, the spot-kick was missed.
The second-half was an open game with chances falling to both teams. Sarah Alexander gave Newton Aycliffe hope when she converted a free-kick from distance and with less than ten minutes remaining Nicky Duckling brought the score to 3-2 and Durham suddenly found themselves defending frantically and they had to settle for a draw when Kim O'Connor scored a great goal from outside the box with the last kick of the game.
Durham will meet Penrith over two legs.
