Kimberley, which plays host to today's action is South Africa's one and only sand track.

It is a country course in Northern Cape, a mile and a quarter round, with a run-in of less than two furlongs. The make-up of the surface means that the dust billows high in the sky and horses that fall behind rarely recover.

The draw favours high numbers on the straight (five furlong) course, but otherwise low numbers (closest to the rail).

Today's richest race is the C Division Handicap over six furlongs (1.15).

Secret Find, ten times a winner, looks to have an impossible task carrying 10st 3lb and the in-form Captain Doba, who can complete a hat-trick, is preferred.

Northernderry would have a leading chance on the pick of his form, but is badly drawn.

Deon Sampson, impressive on Power Act at Gosforth on Saturday, could be the jockey to have on your side at the meeting.

Pick of his rides are McKenna's Gold (11.15) and Steady Byou (1.45).

Both horses are trained by Peter Miller, who works at the course and co-ordinates the racing.

Rob's Island in the Maiden Plate (12.45), appears to be the pick of Mike McLachlan's 14-strong team of runners at the meeting.

Indeed, seven trainers are responsible for no less than 72 of the 77 horses declared.

Another jockey to watch is Lisa Prestwood, who impressed when riding Constable to a photo-finish success at Gosforth on Saturday.

Her best chance will come with Wild World (11.45).

l Racing may be set to restart on Wednesday but plans of a full programme for the remainder of the week were dealt a new blow yesterday when officials at Wincanton abandoned their meeting scheduled for Thursday.

The course executive are unable to put all the criteria outlined in the British Horseracing Board's guidelines for the resumption of racing during the foot and mouth crisis into place in time for the meeting.

With the day's other scheduled meeting's at Carlisle and Towcester also unable to take place as both tracks fall within designated infected areas and therefore out of bounds for racing, the sport faces another blank day just 24 hours after the scheduled restart.
