Redcar and Eston District Scout Group is appealing for help to turn an abandoned activities centre at Ingleby Greenhow into a campsite.
The site, taken over by the Forestry Commission, used to belong to ICI.
Since they acquired the use of the site last summer, the Scouts have been working hard to restore it.
They hope to replace temporary buildings to enable younger children, who are not allowed to camp under canvas, to use the facilities.
The group has received donations, including one from Redcar, Saltburn and Guisborough Freemasons, but says more money is needed - the work will cost between £10,000 and £15,000.
Scouts spokesman Alan Blunt said other groups would be able to use the site.
Anyone who can help is asked to ring (01642) 483446.
