WHEN intruder sirens sound, alarm bells start ringing for over-worked police officers.
When it comes to investigating burglaries Cleveland Police officers often find themselves left out in the cold.
Repeatedly, police respond to a break-in at a shop or office, only to find themselves locked out - because the person whose name they have been given as the keyholder has moved.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "If a keyholder does not attend we often have to break in, which means we have to have it all boarded up and an officer hanging around when that officer could be sent to other jobs.
"An officer can be delayed at a property, preventing them making other calls.''
Cleveland Police are to appeal to more than 10,000 keyholders across Teesside to get in touch and update their records.
The information they need is a name, address, telephone and mobile number, if available.
