A WOMEN'S group is refusing to let a cracked drain dampen its spirits.
Flooding, discovered at South Thornaby Community Centre simply means an International Women's Day evening concert will now be switched to Thornaby Youth Club.
The concert will include poetry readings, karaoke singing, dancing, jacket potato supper and a creche, available until 9pm.
The evening event will follow a "Reclaim the Night" protest march through the town, highlighting the issue of women's safety on the streets at night.
The march will starts at Thornaby Pavilion, but will now finish at the youth club.
Daytime events will go ahead as planned at the Thornaby Pavilion when there will be a range of activities including free use of the squash court with balls and racquets provided.
There will be stalls giving advice on employment and training, to tips on aromatherapy, health and beauty, henna hand painting, free raffles and prizes. A free buffet lunch and creche is provided.
Gillian Evans, a youth worker from Thornaby, who has organised the event, said: "This celebration is all about providing a fun, safe and welcoming environment where women of all ages and backgrounds can try something new, meet friends, chat, and generally relax and enjoy themselves."
The flooding has forced the community centre to close for all activities this week. Telephones at the centre will continue to be manned, and staff are organising alternative venues for activities.
