SOUTH Moor Golf Club, near Stanley, has launched a drive to attract women members, by waiving joining fees.
The women's section, captained by Jean Golightly, of Stanley, enjoyed success last year, winning the Anderson League and the Tomlinson Cup.
The club also won the Millennium Trophy, which involved men, women and junior players.
"We were delighted at the success of the ladies' section last year," said this year's captain, Joan Chilton. "But you don't have to be a trophy winner to enjoy the game."
New women members will be charged only the annual subscription.
Ms Chilton said: "We hope to encourage people from the immediate vicinity as well as Consett, North Durham, Chester-le- Street and Birtley."
For more information, call the clubhouse on (01207) 232848.
