ANDREW Magowan is getting in shape for an Asian adventure of a lifetime.
The 21-year-old Durham University graduate is in training for a sponsored rowing marathon tomorrow, a gruelling event designed to raise cash for his Mongolian Operation Rally adventure next month.
The Chester-le-Street history student will spend ten weeks in one of the most inhospitable, and least understood, countries on the planet.
His stay in Mongolia will be divided into three phases.
In the first he'll help build remote clinics, then he'll carry out an endangered mammal survey before trekking across the barren southern part of the country.
Andrew, of Longdean Park, Chester-le-Street, said: "It's going to be a real adventure and an experience I'll never forget.
"But before I go I have to raise around £3,000 which is why I've been practising my rowing over the last few weeks."
On Saturday he will row the equivalent of 26 miles, or 42,000 metres, on a rowing machine in the Lifestyle Gym in Chester-le-Street Leisure Centre.
To help raise about £500 towards his eventual total, he plans to row the distance in about three hours and 15 minutes.
He jets out to Mongolia on April 15.
