Tow Law Bass League
SUNNISIDE Comedian caused a major upset when they beat the visiting title-chasing Tow Law New Market A by three points. The home side took both trebles' points and then had Jeff Ridley, Harry Bowes and Robert Wilkinson as singles winners. The New Market had singles wins from Darren Yeoman, John Parkin and Alan Whightman but the Comedian clinched victory by taking two of the three singles.
This defeat pushes the New Market A 11 points behind the second placed, Esh Stag's Head, who are 26 points behind the leaders, Billy Row Club.
Jeff Sneath of Billy Row Club was the individual star of the week with two 140's, a start of 152 and a 130 check out. Geoff Pratt hit 140 and Bob Slater 140 for Billy Row Club.

DESPITE being held to a draw at Willington Club, the Victoria Club clinched the championship as they moved 22 points ahead of Willington Burn, who surprisingly went down by two points at Willington Black Horse Tavern. The Prospect Club are in third place, nine points adrift of the Burn.
Hunwick Joiners Arms were the biggest winners of the week when they dropped two points at Willington Brewers Droop and had the only maximum scorer of the week, John Mason.

CROOK Queen's Head's hopes of landing the runners-up spot took a dive when they went down by the odd point at Crook Travellers Rest. The five point home win for Tow Law New Market B over the neighbouring Black Horse took them ten points clear of both the Queen's Head and the Victoria Club. Crook Coach and Horses further extended their lead at the top to 74 points after they whitewashed the visiting Tow Law Station.
The leading individual scorers were Ann Adams 140 for the Australian, Margaret Stewart 140 and 132 and Betty Chapman 125 for the Coach and Horses, Coral Humes 137 and Barbara Smith 125 for the Cricket Club, Carol Newton 137 for the Victoria Club, Jacqueline Baker 135 and Carol Spencer 133 for the New Market B, Carrie Clement 132 and Norma Parkin 128 for the Queen's Head, Sharon Troy 124 and Claire Blenkiron 121 for the Lion and Unicorn, Christine Hammond 126 for the Rose and Crown and Sharon Smith 121 for the Station.

CROOK Coach and Horses upset the visiting title challengers, Crook Three Blue Bells when they came with a strong performance to beat their visitors by three points. This pushed the Bells 12 points behind the Mill House, who were without a match.
The leading individual scorers were Gwen Varley 156 for the White Swan, Mary Miller 152 and June Peyrefitte 121 for Bar 56, Freda Brown 124 for Oakenshaw Club and Carol Coote 113 for the Coach and Horses.
