Camerons Teesside League

For the second time this season the entire programme was wiped out due to the freezing conditions bringing the number of postponements to over 60.

Acklam Steelworks are on course for the championship. They have played 23 matches and are the only unbeaten team in the league and eight points ahead of second-placed Nunthorpe Athletic, who have two games in hand and they both face some important matches.

Acklam have Bedale Athletic, Cargo Fleet Carlin How, Hollybush United, Richmond Town and Thornaby Youth Club among their remaining matches. They also travel to Nunthorpe in the last match of the season.

Acklam are, for the first time in quite a number of years, out of the MacMillan Bowl but in the semi-finals of the Raine Trophy with a match at home to Bedale.

Nunthorpe have Bedale to play home and away, Cargo Fleet home and away and Grangetown Boys Club at home before meeting Acklam.

Cargo Fleet have also only played 21 games and trail Nunthorpe by five points. As well as facing Acklam and Nunthorpe, they have to play Hollybush home and away, Thornaby Youth Club, Whitby Town Reserves and Wolviston Reserves.

Champions Grangetown Boys Club look to have lost the chance of retaining their title, trailing Acklam by 13 points and Nunthorpe by five, but have played 23 matches. They face Cargo Fleet in a MacMillan Bowl semi-final but have only Nunthorpe of the top three to play.

Hollybush United, in their first season, have done very well and could make an impression on the final placings with both Acklam, Cargo Fleet twice and Grangetown of the teams above them to play. They lost both . They have only played 20 matches and like a large number of team in the league face three matches a week during April.

Bedale Athletic, when at full strength, are capable of defeating all the teams above them. They have played 23 matches and have only had two home matches postponed. They have Acklam to play in both the league and in a semi-final of the Raine Trophy.

Carlin How, 23 matches played, have Acklam, Cargo Fleet and Grangetown to play. And will also meet Thornaby in the semi-final of the MacMillan Bowl. They have the top scorer in Jason Draper but he is ineligible to play in the MacMillan Bowl.

Thornaby Youth Club can match most of the teams vying for honours. They have only played 18 matches and face a large number of evening matches in April. They are in mid-table but still have Acklam and Cargo Fleet to play. They also meet Wolviston Reserves in the semi-final of the Raine Trophy.

Richmond Town are the midway markers, having played 22 matches. They have Acklam, Grangetown and Hollybush to play of the top five, but their derby with Bedalte will be of most interest.

Whitby side Fishburn Park have only played 20 matches and have all the top five teams to play. They surprisingly lost last week to Wolviston Reserves in the Raine Trophy but will be hoping their new ground will be ready for sometime next season.

New Marske Sports Club are in 11th place, have played most games, 24. They have Acklam, Bedale and Hollybush of the top six to play and would hope to pull of a couple of surprise results.

Thornaby are another team to have only played 20 matches, their best results having been in the MacMillan Bowl reaching the semi-finals and are away to Carlin How after beating Acklam and Cargo Fleet.

Middlesbrough side BEADS have bounced back from a disastrous start but have only played 21 matches. They don't look like dropping down to the re-election zone and will be looking for some good results from the matches they have left, especially against local rivals Acklam.

Wolviston Reserves, another side in their first season, struggled early on but a good run in the Durham Trophy has seen them improve and pull off some good results - a 2-2 draw with Cargo Fleet, a 2-2 draw with Grangetown and a 3-0 win over Hollybush.

They have also reached the semi-final of the Raine Trophy and will play at Thornaby Youth Club in April but face a large number of fixtures during that month.

Guisborough Town Reserves are third from bottom, unfortunately fined and lost three points for playing an ineligible player and could be dragged into the bottom two places as they have both Stokesley and basement club Mackinlay Park.

Stokesley Sports Club have only played 19 matches and just six of them at home. They will have to find an alternative pitch for some matches in April due to their other side having a fair number of home matches left. They are seven points above Mackinlay Park and eight below Guisborough and look, along with Mackinlay Park, as the two applying for re-election.

Redcar Mackinlay Park are propping up the rest of the league with only one point, a 2-2 draw against Hollybush in August and are odds-on for re-election at the June annual meeting.

Hathaway and Cope Stokesley League

Middlesbrough Post Office staged an upset in the only game to go ahead when they came back from 2-0 down to beat leaders Teesside Athletic 5-2.

Athletic started well with Phil Pringle getting among the goals in the opening quarter hour. With only five minutes on the clock, Pringle went through one on one with the keeper before calmly slotting the ball home and shortly afterwards, in a similar situation, Pringle beat the Post Office offside trap before firing home a second goal. Many sides might well have folded under this onslaught but Post Office bounced back and by half-time they were on level terms. Paul Newham started the comeback when he volleyed home after his earlier shot had been parried by the keeper. Five minutes later it was all square when Paul Leonard's curling 25-yarder found the top corner of the net. The heavy pitch made controlled football difficult but Post Office adapteded better and they took the lead when Lee Thompson crossed for Ian Pinchbeck to drive home. Thompson then made it 4-2 when he latched on to a defence splitting pass from Stephen Dalton and it was left to Richie Wiberg to complete the scoring when he sent the keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.

Durham Alliance

All league fixtures were called off on Saturday due to the bad weather. Like many other leagues the bad weather has congested the fixtures this season.

l Two of the four cup competitions have to be re-arranged at later dates to give time for the semi-finals to be played.

l Washington Westwood, the most successful team in the league at present cannot afford to lose any more fixtures. They still have 12 league games to play, they are in two cup finals, one semi-final, and are still in two more cup competitions.

l Two games to watch in the league during the next few days are between Springwell Village and Washington Westwood. Tomorrow, Springwell play Washington Westwood at the Northumbrian Centre in the League Challenge Cup (kick-off 2pm).

l Then, on Wednesday, Springwell Village play Washington Westwood again, this time in the final of the Washington Aged People's Trophy. The game is at Chester-le-Street's ground (kick-off 7.30pm).
