HOSPITAL staff are celebrating after becoming the first in the North-East to scoop a quality award.
Newcastle's Nuffield Hospital, in Clayton Road, has been given full accreditation by the Health Quality Service.
Recognised as one of the health sector's leading quality standards, the scheme assesses every aspect of a hospital's organisation and operation.
To celebrate the achievement, hospital bosses are throwing a party at St James' Park, on Saturday, to thank staff for their efforts.
Hospital manager Neil Permain said: "The exhaustive criteria of this assessment means only organisations which exceed the highest possible standards can reach the required level.
"We are very proud to be the standard bearers for the North-East.
