IT was music to PC Vicky Lacey's ears when reports came in to be on the lookout for a thief - who had stolen a saxaphone.

So when she spotted a suspect matching the crook's description she moved in.

She took the man to the police station for questioning.

But it was not until the man was behind bars she realised she wasn't looking for a man in possession of a saxaphone - but a man who had stolen a fax and phone.

Vicky, 23, a police officer for the past four years in Scarborough, had received the garbled message on her pocket radio.

Unfortunately, because Scarborough lies on the east coast, radio communications are often interfered with by messages from foreign trawlers in the North Sea.

Vicky admitted colleagues had a few laughs when she told them her story.

But she said "I'm not thick really - it just seems that way some times.

It wasn't until I was back at the station and I explained I'd arrested the man on suspicion of stealing a saxaphone that I was actually informed it was a fax and phone.

"I felt rather silly and had a good laugh about it, because everyone else had a huge giggle."
