THREE generations of a family paid tribute to a charity by handing over a cheque for £1,000.

Brian Clark, his wife Beryl, daughter Tina Greensitt and grandchildren Hannah and Andrew, presented the cheque to the Alzheimer's Society on behalf of communications staff at ntl, where Mrs Greensitt works.

Mrs Greensitt nominated the Teesside branch to receive the donation, raised by casual clothes days at the firm. Mr Clark, 63, has suffered from Alzheimer's Disease for five years.

Mrs Greensitt said yesterday: "He used to have a good job with ICI, where he was in charge of more than 30 men. Today, his main achievements are making a cup of tea and washing the pots.

"My father attends a group once a week, and he now goes swimming, plays bowls, visits places of interest and looks forward to his day out."

June Dickinson, Teesside branch coordinator of the Alzheimer's Society, said: "We have to rely heavily on donations and fundraising.

"Without such help, we would struggle to provide all the services that Brian enjoys so much."
