A NERVOUS headteacher was rescued from a tower yesterday - all in the name of charity.
Colin Algie, headteacher at Ormesby School, Middlesbrough, was rescued by firefighters from the five-storey tower at Coulby Newham fire station to raise money for the school's £2m sports complex.
As part of a training exercise, firefighters strapped Mr Algie into a stretcher and abseiled alongside the stretcher to the ground.
More than 50 pupils, including a number of disabled children, were bussed to the fire station to support their headteacher and were given a conducted tour by firefighters.
The sponsored descent is just one of a number of fundraising events to cover a shortfall of £30,000 for the school's commitment to the Sports England Lottery bid.
Mr Algie said the sports complex will meet the needs of all the pupils and the community
