THE continuing problem of vandalism in an east Cleveland village was the main topic at a community forum.
Brotton is being plagued by youths who are particularly targeting the church, and are creating havoc.
Concern was raised that Cleveland Police do not seem to be taking the matter seriously, although residents praised community officer Rachel Dicks.
Redcar and Cleveland borough councillor Richard Rudland said: "It is putting the message out that it is all right for people to continue damaging property, because they don't see the police responding."
It was agreed that measures would be taken to help the police and the community work together better.
Children attending youth clubs would be asked what they would like to see done, so that the community could respond to the needs of young people.
Coun Rudland said: "We want to find out what they want. We can't reach everyone, but if we can get some of them involved in hobbies or whatever, then it will help solve a lot of the problems in the village.
