A £2.7m plan to improve an area's libraries is likely to be approved this week.
The proposals, for libraries run by Middlesbrough Borough Council, will be discussed by the cabinet tomorrow.
Among them will be a significant increase in the amount spent on books, which will be delivered to more elderly and house-bound readers.
In a report, Andy White, head of lifelong learning, states: "A new enhanced role for the library service has been identified."
The package will be funded by the council and the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund
