STAFF at Stockton Central Library are celebrating after their efforts to get a head-start on Internet training was recognised by the Government.
The library's open technology centre (OTC) is part of the Government's drive to get everyone in the UK online by offering guidance to those who are new to technology.
The OTC had been open for three years before being recognised as part of the Government scheme.
Andrew Barker, assistant director of education, leisure and cultural services at the council said: "Our experienced and dedicated team is more than willing to do its bit to help this scheme to succeed.
"This achievement is in recognition of the work this centre has undertaken since it opened in 1998."
The centre regularly stages Internet taster sessions, basic word-processing courses and self-help courses. There is also help for those who have never used a computer.
Lesley King, libraries and information services manager said: "We are delighted that the Open Technology Centre has been recognised by the Government as a UK Online Centre.
"I am sure that people will find the centre a friendly and helpful place to come and learn about technology and get access to the huge amount of information available on the Internet."
