ROCK 'n roll will mix with rhythm and rhyme in a modern version of a Shakespeare classic.
Final year pupils at Yarm Primary School are rehearsing for the show Rockin' and Rollin' Romeo, to be staged this week.
Based on Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, it incorporates music from the 1950s in a colourful departure from the original. The script has been adapted for young actors by theatre company Shakespeare for Kids.
Simon English, a teacher involved in the production, said: "It ties in with work on Shakespeare we do in year six. It's adapted so some of it is in modern language and some in verse. When the children act it, they get an extra understanding."
Rockin' and Rollin' Romeo is being staged at Yarm Primary School, tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, from 7pm to 9.30pm.
