AWARD-WINNING publicans Adrian and Gill Barrett have confirmed that they are calling time on their stay at a hostelry on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.
The couple have run the Hack and Spade at Whashton, near Richmond, for seven years, building up a reputation for fine food.
Adrian, a chef, brought his experience from training at The Savoy and Gleneagles to the business, which reached the finals of The Publican Catering Pub of the Year competition.
However, the crowning glory came last month, when the couple were named as the winners of Pub Food Restaurant of the Year.
Mr Barrett said the decision to move on was inspired by a wish for something bigger.
"It's frustrating to have to turn so many people away, as we have not been able to fit them in," he said.
"Our stay in the village has been brilliant, and there are plenty of people we will miss, but there comes a time when you have to move on."
The Hack and Spade is on the market - although Mr and Mrs Barrett have no idea where their new home will be.
"We would like another country pub somewhere close to Teesside, but have not seen anywhere yet," said Mr Barrett.
