A HEROIN addict jailed for a shop raid, in which he and an accomplice struggled to rip out a cash till, failed in an appeal court bid to cut his prison sentence.
Anthony Gibson, 29, and another man entered the store in Park Lane North, Middlesborough, on March 9, last year.
They ignored the shop assistant and wrestled the cash till from its fixed stand, ignoring an alarm.
Judge Sir Richard Tucker, sitting at London's Criminal Appeal Court, said the offence was fuelled by drug addiction.
Gibson, of The Vale, in the town's Grove Hill, had been jailed for six years at Teesside Crown Court after admitting robbery.
Dismissing the appeal, Sir Richard said the sentencing judge was best placed to assess local conditions.
