CHILDREN from an east Cleveland primary school have recorded their own songs for Europe in a project linking them with schools in Germany, Slovakia and Poland.
The youngsters from Whitecliffe Primary School, Carlin How, released the Come On Everybody, Let's Sing and Write songbook and CD, yesterday.
The work is based on the lives of the young people and their experiences in Carlin How.
Composer Richard Grainger, arranged some of the songs and helped to record the CD.
The project is part of a European-funded partnership initiative with schools in Hanover, Germany, Poprad, in Slovakia, and Zakopane, in Poland. The music and lyrics were written by youngsters from the Kids in Their Area Club, which is organised by The Children's Society and Whitecliffe School pupils.
The school's chairman of governors, Roger Clipsham, said: "It's been an unique experience for our pupils, and they've thoroughly enjoyed every part of it."
Zhenya Beloborodova, The Children's Society's development worker, has worked on the project from the outset. She said: "We are proud of the children's ability to express their views.
"Their lyrics are valuable accounts about children's life in their area."
