A SIXTH form student will be travelling to Kenya as part of her Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
Georgina Rutherford, 16, a student at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, will fly to Africa on July 14.
She will spend a month working with a charity which provides care for street children in Nairobi.
Part of her time will be spent travelling across Kenya in a truck, taking the children on an adventure holiday.
Other plans include climbing Mount Kenya.
Georgina, who lives in Darlington, is studying for A-Levels in PE, media, French, English language and general studies, and hopes to go to university to study for a sports and media degree. She is also an athlete, competing in cross- country running for Durham and the North-East.
She is planning a number of fundraising events to raise the £1,500 she has to find for the expedition.
