YOUNGSTERS at High Coniscliffe Primary School, Darlington, have built nesting boxes for the local barn owl population, which is under threat. Pupils, from left, Adam Keeligan, Carl Eddon, Mark Tweddle and Daniel Wllson were among those taking part in the project, helped by Durham Conservation Trust, which has launched Operation Barn Owl, aimed at preserving the bird's population. Headteacher Tom Lumley said the boxes had been passed to conservation volunteers. He said: "This project gave children the opportunity to work in their own time, producing something that is adding to the local environment." Picture: sarah nicholso
