NURSERY school children sampled a taste of another culture yesterday.
The children from Corporation Nursery Centre, in Darlington, marked the Muslim festival of Eid, which celebrates the birth of the prophet Abraham.
Headteacher at the school, Carol Dawson, said: "Because the centre is in the heart of the Bengali community in Darlington, we have quite a lot of Bengali children coming to the school.
"Just as they share in the Christmas festival we like to share their festivals with them."
The children were treated to traditional Bengali activities such as hand painting, tried Bengali foods and made jewellery.
They also dressed up, as did the staff at the nursery and while playing they listened to traditional Bengali music.
The Eid festival was celebrated last week by the Muslim community.
