THOUSANDS of schoolchildren will descend on Northumbria University from today as part of a ten-day celebration of science.
More than 3,000 schoolchildren, the majority from the North-East, will join TV's Live and Kicking celebrity Dr Bunhead in a series of wacky events and activities.
The aim of Science Alive is to show the youngsters that science can be fun and lead to good job prospects.
Dr Bunhead, alias Tom Pringle, is a teacher and research scientist who has spent the past four years touring schools to bring science out of the lab and into the classroom.
His experiments will involve exploding custard and a swamp monster
