THE man selected to follow in the shoes of veteran Labour MP Giles Radice has confirmed he is to stand down from his council seat later this month.
Newcastle city councillor Kevan Jones, 37, a senior member of the council's cabinet, was recently selected to succeed Mr Radice as the Labour Party candidate for the Durham North constituency, which includes Stanley and Chester-le-Street, and he will stand down from his Walkergate council ward, next Friday.
Mr Radice announced he was to retire at the forthcoming General Election after representing the Labour seat since 1973.
He won with a majority of 26,299 at the last election
