ORGANISERS of a walking festival in the region are hoping it will go ahead, despite the foot-and-mouth crisis.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council has linked up with environmental organisations to promote the Coast and Country Festival of Walking. Due to take place across the borough from June 22 to June 24, the festival aims to build on the success of last year's inaugural event and encourage local people and visitors to take full advantage of the borough's footpaths and bridleways.
Although there have been no outbreaks of foot-and-mouth in the borough so far, the council is not taking any risks and has closed all country parks and access to footpaths and bridleways.
A spokesman said the council was planning for the event to carry on, but a final judgement would be taken nearer the time
