ALLOTMENT services will be improved in Darlington after complaints.
Last year, Darlington Borough Council carried out a survey of allotment holders, and almost 50 per cent of respondents rated the service as poor.
They were asked what improvements they would like to see, and the popular choices were improved security, better management of vacant sites and more site inspections.
After considering the results, the council is planning changes to its allotment service.
It is proposing to refine the service to ensure it is better managed, encouraging the participation of professional and technical expertise from different council departments.
The authority is also planning to appoint an allotment officer to offer a single point of focus for all allotment matters.
