POLICE have joined forces with the motor insurance industry in a bid to clamp down on increasing numbers of airbag thefts.
More than 120 airbags have been stolen in North Yorkshire in the past six months, as well as several cases in Durham and Cleveland.
Thieves targeted Aldbrough St John, Melsonby and other villages north of Richmond in a spate of thefts earlier this year.
In a bid to combat the trend, Hambleton and Richmondshire Community Safety Partnerships has teamed up with commercial security company Autolok to provide victims with a secure steering wheel cover at a reduced price.
Charlie Brown's, of North-allerton and Bedale Motor Factors are offering a similar product at a discount rate, until the end of April.
