A WOMAN was left badly shaken after she was pushed to the ground and kicked by a man who stole her handbag.
The incident happened at 7.25pm on Monday, in Dent Street, Hartlepool.
A 52-year-old woman was walking along the street when she was approached by a man who told her to give him her handbag.
She refused and a struggle followed during which she was pushed to the ground and kicked. The woman let go of her bag and the robber ran off along the street with it.
Detective Sergeant Tony Green, from Hartlepool CID said: "The victim was left very badly shaken, but she believes she did scratch her attacker on the forehead during the struggle."
The robber is described as 5ft 10in, with short dark hair, of medium to stocky build, about 20 years old, with a deepvoice and Hartlepool accent.
He was wearing a light grey padded jacket and navy Adidas tracksuit bottoms.
