A SERVICE station has been given permission to continue selling alternative fuel.
David Hutchinson, co-manager at Mickleton Service Station, in Teesdale, County Durham, was celebrating the decision yesterday.
He feared the garage would close if councillors rejected plans for it to keep selling liquid petroleum gas.
The pump was installed last year, but it was not realised that it would need planning permission.
Teesdale District Council's development control committee agreed to let the business continue as it is, yesterday.
Mr Hutchinson said: "I'm chuffed to bits." He had held talks with the environmental health department and the fire service before fitting the pump.
"As far as the forecourt goes, we have sold three times more gas this week than what we have sold petrol and diesel. Without the pump we would have had to lay staff off."
