BEDALE high school raised more than £1,700 for Comic Relief last Friday.
As well as taking part in the usual non-uniform day, with an extra charge for those not wearing something red, pupils were able to enter a competition to guess the disguises of some of their teachers. These ranged from Batman and Robin to Cher and Cruella de Vil, Mickey Mouse and the Pink Panther. The staff most difficult to spot were those dressed as pupils.
Some pupils sold homemade cakes, some went busking in the market place and some raised money through sponsored events. Red noses were everywhere.
The highlight of the day was a talent competition at lunch-time, featuring bands, gymnasts, song and dance acts and drama. The winners of the lower school section, an unlikely set of Spice Girl look-alikes, performed a version of Wannabe. From left to right are Torn Jobling, Martyn Lawrence, James Blackburn and Daniel Bowker, with Richard Sutcliffe at the front.
From £1,000 two years ago, £1,500 seemed an ambitious target, but by mid-week more than £1,700 had been collected, with money still coming in.
