THE Cancer Research Campaign's Stockton supporters group is appealing for fundraising volunteers and a treasurer.
The group has been running for nearly 60 years, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Vice-president of the group Dorothy Rose said: "What we would like to do this year is to get a new treasurer on board, so that we can build on our strength as a group, and carry on supporting the research into cancer which is going on in Newcastle.
"So much has happened over the past couple of years, especially with new drugs and treatments, and we feel we have been a part of it.
"Accounting experience is not essential, although a little knowledge of book-keeping may be of use. The post would require giving up perhaps one evening a month."
Some group members joined 50 years ago, and Mrs Rose has been a member for 40 years.
She said: "We just all enjoy doing it. It is nice to know we are helping others."
Rebecca Laverick, community fundraiser for the charity, said: "The group do a fantastic job, especially as we have not got any other committees in the area.
"They do it themselves, and have done so for more than 50 years. However, they are crying out for people to come forward and help them in what can be a very rewarding job."
Anyone who would like to join the group, is asked to ring (01642) 886668, or (01642) 581246.
