NEWCASTLE United and Sunderland fans made peace in the name of art in the area recently.
The Lanchester and District Operatic and Choral Society adapted the story of Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers to involve rival supporters of the two big North-East clubs. And local hero and current Newcastle United manager Bobby Robson loaned the Newcastle shirts for the production, while director of Sunderland youth academy Ian Branfoot loaned the Sunderland tops.
"It is rare you get co-operation like this between the wearers of the black and white and red and white stripes," said leading society member Moira Watson. "But they did for us and the show was a resounding success."
Practices have already started for the next show at All Saints RC Primary in Lanchester on most Friday evenings at 7.15pm.
Anyone interested in taking part should call Ms Watson on 0191-410 6082.
