BOBBIES in east Cleveland are on the beat in a caravan all week to promote policing in some of the most remote parts of the district.
The experiment began yesterday in Skelton and will move to Lingdale, Brotton and Marske throughout the week.
The caravan will be manned from 10am until 8.30pm by a uniformed officer, while another officer will be out on patrol.
Most parts of east Cleveland do not have a police station and Sergeant Richard Schofield said the nearest full-time station was at Guisborough.
"That is a major trek, especially when they are tied to bus timetables," he said.
He said of the scheme: "It is our assurance to the community that they are not forgotten.
