A PLAN to develop an historic pub has been turned down because the scheme was deemed out of keeping with the listed building.
Andrew Nutter, of the New Inn, Thornton-le-Dale, had wanted to build an extension and relocate the inn's kitchen, to increase the dining area and provide an additional bedroom, at the grade two listed property.
The scheme also involved the demolition of an old roadside shop.
But the North York Moors National Park Authority turned the scheme down, after being told by planning officers that because of its scale and design, the planned work would have an adverse impact on both the character of the popular tourist village and the historic character of the pub.
However, planners say they are to explore an alternative scheme with Mr Nutter.
