A HOSPITAL doctor alleged to have pursued an inappropriate relationship with the mother of a patient may face disciplinary action.
Dr Harpreet Singh, a senior house officer in paediatrics, has been called to appear before the Professional Conduct Committee of the General Medical Council (GMC) next week to face allegations of serious professional misconduct.
A spokesman for the GMC said: "It is alleged Dr Singh took advantage of his professional position in attempting to pursue an inappropriate relationship with the mother of a patient who was in his care."
Bob Haslam, of North Durham Health Care NHS Trust, confirmed Dr Singh worked as a junior doctor in the paediatric department of Dryburn Hospital, in Durham, until 1999.
Dr Singh appears before the GMC on Wednesday.
