VETERAN Crook and District AC athlete Kevin Archer has won gold and silver in recent national indoor competitions.
Archer won gold in the men's 45-49 years 1500m at the Scottish Veterans indoor track and field championships in Glasgow, recording his first victory in eight attempts over double outdoor European champion Alistair Dunlop with his winning time of 4mins 18secs.
Archer won two silver medals at the British veterans indoor championships in Cardiff clocking 2mins 8secs for the 800m and 4min 13secs for the 1500m beaten only by reigning double world outdoor champion David Wilcock.
The Wear Valley Council Community fitness manager just missed out on the medals at the European indoor championships in Bordeaux, France. Archer was fourth in the 1500m in 4.14 and fourth in the 3000m in 9.20.
In the Great Britain and Northern Ireland veterans track and field rankings for last year Archer was ranked second fastest in the UK in his age group for the 3000m steeplechase (10-16), fifth fastest for the 800m (2.03) and fifth in the 1500m (4.17).
