All 200 pupils from year nine took part in a range of activities designed to introduce them to work.
Representatives from a variety of companies took part in the sessions, which covered engineering, product design and testing, methods of business production, quality control, health and safety, and first aid.
Staff from McDonald's took pupils through a workshop designed to get them thinking how a typical restaurant is laid out, while Peterlee's Walker's Crisps organised sessions based on product quality.
Other organisations taking part included Durham University, Asda, the International Centre for Life and Durham Fire and Rescue Brigade. The day was backed by the Durham Agency Against Crime.
