PUPILS at two schools are doing their best to lick poverty in South America by saving thousands of used stamps.
Children at Pelaw Infants, in Chester-le-Street, and Chester-le-Street C of E Primary School have collected several large bin bags full of stamps for the latest Blue Peter appeal.
The schools, which share the same site in Hilda Park, will now send the bags off to the popular TV programme which will convert the stamps into money for equipment to help Peruvian natives set up medical camps.
It is hoped that mini-health clinics can save many lives in the Peruvian Andes.
