Following sprinters in form is always a good idea and Jackerin, who has been running well of late, looks the one to be on in the Windsor Festival Claimer at Lingfield.
Julie Craze's six-year-old ended a long losing run when scoring over six furlongs at this course on his penultimate outing, and he ran even better in defeat when second to Charge over the same course and distance last time.
He gave the strong impression that day that the drop back to five furlongs would be ideal and, although he meets one or two on unfavourable terms he'll be hard to peg back from his good draw.
The stable have been in good form with their other sprinters Tom Tun, Southern Dominion and Aa-youknownothing and my selection is preferred to the enigmatic Torrent.
Brian Meehan also has his string in good form and he can be on the mark half an hour later with Strike The Green in the Nigel Kent-Lemon Handicap over the same distance.
A winner over six at Wolverhampton in December, the son of Smart Strike couldn't reproduce that effort on his handicap debut at Southwell in December but is worth another chance on this faster surface.
He is also well-berthed in stall two and he looks to have the progressive Law Breaker, drawn next to him in box two, to beat.
Andrew Reid has enjoyed a tremendous 12 months and his Violent, who escapes a penalty for his win in an apprentice race at Wolverhampton last week, is the one to be on in a weak-looking Come To Derby Trial Day Fillies Handicap over a mile.
Three-year-olds have been more than holding their own against their elders in the last couple of months and the filly is a proven performer over this course and distance.
A reproduction of last week's win against older horses should be enough to see her go close and it's worth remembering that a couple of her main rivals are unproven on this surface.
Golden Rod will be a short price for the Raceline Taxis Apprentice Handicap over a mile and a half after his facile 12-length win at Southwell a week ago.
However, with both of his main market rivals running well below form, plus the fact that this is a much different surface and he has also broken blood vessels in the past, it might be better to side with Philip Mitchell's Half Tide.
The seven-year-old is still on a handy mark and possibly found the trip too far when second to Bathwick Dream over two miles at this course last time.
This course and distance winner should be suited by the return to this trip and with Lost Spirit and Stitch In Time in the line-up, there should be no hanging about.
The opening classified stakes over a mile looks a very trappy event and only a small stakes wager is the recommendation on Conrad Allen's Phoebe Buffay, who has been in good heart of late on Fibresand, but who is effective on this faster surface.
l Polar Red will bid to keep Newcastle's biggest Flat prize at home this season.
He has been bought by course supremo Sir Stanley Clarke with the aim of landing the £120,000 Foster's Lager Northumberland Plate in June.
''It was a private sale and we want to win the Plate,'' Clarke said.
''He was a good horse with Mick Ryan last year and he will go jumping afterwards if he stays sound. He is a lovely big horse - 16.2 hands."
